Graduate students have long desired a space to call their own and the proposal to former Chancellor Linda Katehi by the Chancellor's Graduate and Professional Student Advisory Board (CGPSA) clearly articulated the need for a centralized location for graduate and professional students.
The Provost has appointed a Project Advisory Committee (PAC) consisting of campus leaders and graduate students, and separate workgroups have been formed to represent the constituencies to be housed in the new center. The PAC has interviewed and selected an architectural firm - Leddy, Maytum & Stacy (LMS) - and preliminary space planning is underway. The project is scheduled for completion in 2019 barring any unforeseen delays.
Walker Hall was first included in the Davis campus’ 2010-2020 Consolidated State and Non-State Capital Plan and much effort has been devoted to obtaining funding to complete this project. The project has secured funding approvals through the 2013-14 Budget for State Capital Improvements from the Joint Legislative Budget Committee under the provisions of Chapter 50, Statutes of 2013 (“AB 94”). The total project budget is set at $31.3 million.
