Graduate Student Assistant to the Dean and Chancellor

The Graduate Student Assistant to the Dean of Graduate Studies and to the Chancellor (GSADC) serves as a liaison between graduate students and the administration at UC Davis. In addition to regular meetings with the Dean of Graduate Studies, the Chancellor, Graduate Council, and other campus administrators, the GSADC is available to meet with graduate students, both formally (through the GSA and other graduate student groups and organizations) and informally in order to represent graduate student concerns and perspectives as accurately as possible.

I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Cultural Studies Graduate Group, currently working on my dissertation, which examines the intersections of transgender studies and surveillance studies. The project investigates the ways that surveillance practices have been deployed in relation to transgender people in a variety of contexts – from gendered identity documents to prison segregation to the monitoring of immigration and travel more generally. It asks not only how gender-nonconforming populations are monitored, but also how those subjects might disrupt surveillance practices that assume a normatively gendered body.

I am pleased to serve as the Graduate Student Assistant to the Dean and to the Chancellor for 2007-2008. In this position, I work as a liaison between graduate students and the administration. I represent graduate students in various committees, assist graduate students in finding services, staff, and resources appropriate to their concerns, and I help them negotiate problems and grievances with their departments, faculty, or staff. Please contact me at (530) 752-4090 or via e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.
