The NRC Assessment consists of questionnaires for the Institution, Graduate Programs, Emerging Fileds, Faculty and Students. The questionnaires are available on this page or at the NRC Web site. As questionnaires become finalized, they will be posted to this page for downloading.

These questionnaires are not the actual documents that will be completed over the course of the assessment. Instead, the NRC, working through its contractor, will have web sites available with these questions. UC Davis will pre-populate the web sites with as much data as possible. Programs and faculty members particpating in the survey will be provided passwords to access their web pages. They will need to both verify the data that UC Davis has uploaded as well as respond to survey items that could not be pre-populated.

The Institutional Questionnaire

The Institutional Questionnaire (IQ) has already been completed and will be sent to the NRC, along with the list of particpating programs in August, 2006. The IQ asked several general questions about policy and procedure that affected graduate students campus-wide. The Program Questionnaire

The Program Questionnaire (PQ) has been finalized by the NRC and is available for viewing as either an Adobe PDF file or an MS Word file. The PQ is the longest and most detailed of the five questionnaires and requests a considerable amount of summary data related to the number of applications, admisisons and enrollments; current students in Fall 2005; student financial support and the number of graduates. It also asks questions regarding faculty members, postdoctoral scholars and the program's relationship to other programs on campus.

The NRC Assessment Advisory Group will pre-populate the UC Davis program questionnaires with data from Banner, PPS (for student employment) and DaFIS (for student support). Since July, the group has been meeting to to decide how to extract the data from our systems, to insure that the most accurate, highest quality data is provided to the NRC. When the data for pre-population is actually extracted from UC Davis systems and sent to the NRC, more information will be made available on this site.

To help graduate programs make sure that their student data is accurate, the Office of Graduate Studies will have available, the raw data upon which the summary information in the PQ is based. Programs will be able to request the raw data to assist them.

The Emerging Fields Questionnaire

The Emerging Fields Questionnaire (EF), has also been finalized by the NRC. This is a questionnaire targetted to specific programs in what are generally regarded as new or emerging fields of inquiry. As such, these programs likely do not have sufficient graduates to be included in the main study. There are no doctorate programs at UC Davis which will fall into this category. The Faculty Questionnaire

The Faculty Questionnaire (FQ) has not been finalized at this time (August 12, 2006). When it is completed, links will be provided on this page. In its current state, it will be a web-based questionnaire and each participating faculty member will have access through an identifying password. In general, the FQ looks at faculty training, work experience, and publications. It will be helpful to have a current CV to assist you. You may also be asked to participate in a reputational study, rating similar programs at other universities.

The Student Questionnaire

The Student Questionnaire (SQ) has not been finalized at tis time (August 12, 2006). Only doctoral students who have advanced to candidacy in five particulat fields will be asked to participate. It is anticipated that the survey will ask questions about your program and financial support you have received. It will also contain a number of "satisfaction" questions.
