Sick Leave and Time Off
Time Off
Postdoctoral Scholars are expected to take time off in the intersession and recess periods (which constitutes about four weeks, excluding University holidays) between the beginning of Fall Term and the end of Spring Term. If the Postdoctoral Scholar’s training and research program involves work during these periods, it is expected that the faculty mentor will approve time off at another mutually agreeable time. It is up to the PI, postdoc and the department to determine a way to ensure this time off is granted. This is paid time off and it does not carry forward if not used.Sick Leave
Postdoctoral scholars - employees (title code 3252) are eligible for paid sick leave of up to 12 days per 12 month appointment. If the postdoctoral scholar is a Fellow (3253) or Paid Direct (3254), they will also be eligible for the same leave, unless the extramural funding agency has different sick leave requirements. Postdoctoral scholars with exceptions for less than 12-month appointments are eligible for sick leave in proportion to the appointment period (i.e. 3 month appointment, 3 days). The sick days will be granted at the beginning of the appointment period.Departments will need to keep a record of this information for their
own postdoctoral scholars. Unused sick leave WILL be carried forward
to Postdoctoral Scholar appointments, but not to accruing titles
(i.e. Specialist series, SRAs).
