Students gain advanced knowledge of fundamental physical and chemical principles to create innovative new technologies, including atomic and molecular physics; computational physics; fusion technology; laser physics and nonlinear optics; materials science and condensed matter physics; plasma physics; and scientific computing. Students graduate with the qualitative and quantitative skills necessary for professional research and teaching in applied science engineering. A major strength of the Department of Applied Science is its access to the scientists and facilities of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).
