The Ph.D. program is supported by a wide array of faculty and encompasses numerous research areas. Students may either choose an area of emphasis focusing on a topic within the broad domain of structural/theoretical linguistics or may specialize in an area within our thematic focus on second language acquisition and development, which responds to a growing need for researchers trained to investigate issues of bilingualism and multilingualism. The M.A. program prepares students to teach English to speakers of another language and provides them with a strong background in formal and descriptive linguistics.

This program is an interdisciplinary Graduate Group.
