What is GradLink?
GradLink is designed to serve UC Davis graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and the campus community. It includes event announcements and news of interest about graduate programs, graduate student and postdoctoral scholar accomplishments, updates from the Dean of Graduate Studies, and other information that impacts graduate and postdoctoral education at UC Davis.
GradLink is available in two formats – as a weekly e-newsletter publication and online (as shown on these pages). The e-newsletter version is distributed to graduate students through graduate staff personnel and to postdoctoral scholars through the postdoctoral scholars listserv.
Who may submit to GradLink?
The Office of Graduate Studies publishes submissions on a space-available basis with priority given to campus units that serve graduate students and/or postdocs. All student groups are welcome to submit events, regardless of ideology, religious affiliation, etc. However, all student groups must be affiliated with a student organization that is registered through the UC Davis Student Programs and Activities Center. The Office of Graduate Studies reserves the right to accept, reject, or edit all submissions for publication.
What are the guidelines for submission?
“Courses & Events” e-newsletter items should be submitted at least two weeks before the date of the event. Make sure you include: the event title, date, time, location, sponsor name (if applicable), and a brief (150 words max.) description of the event.
You must designate a contact person for each event and provide their contact information, including: their name, phone number or e-mail address, and the name of their department, unit, or student group.
The “Did You Know?” section includes tips and information useful to graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Please limit these submissions to 100 words.
The “Great News!” section features the accomplishments of graduate students and postdoctoral candidates. Please limit these submissions to 200 words per student or Postdoc.
Please e-mail all submissions to gradlinkeditor@ucdavis.edu. Be sure that you meet the deadlines as stated for that quarter and that your submission matches the approved format guidelines. Items for the online publication must be submitted by the published deadline date for inclusion.
GradLink does not accept commercial advertisements or announcements – nor does it accept items advocating candidates for off-campus elections.

Ph.D. Student Wins Spot in National Program
Kathryn Jackson (Ph.D. Student in Animal Biology) has been selected to participate in "Debating Science", a graduate education program that teaches the skills of ethical public discourse and their application to issues in science and technology. The program is being funded by the National Science Foundation and sponsored by the University of Montana-Missoula. It is an intensive four-day workshop that will take place in August, followed by an online discussion course through the University in the Fall. The Foundation group says, “We are looking for graduate students who are inspired by their own research, but who are also interested in exploring the social, political, and philosophical context of that work, and who are committed to sharing science with nonscientists, in a genuine hope for a better world.”And Kathryn fit the bill! She won the spot after knocking the group’s socks off at their incredibly competitive national competition – they only accept 33 students each year!
Congratulations, Kathryn! We’re proud of you.
