Third Annual Provost's Fellowship Award Ceremony

Since its inception in 2012, the Provost's Fellowship has allocated two million dollars of campus funding in order to award 50 graduate students a $25,000 stipend as well as remission of their tuition and fees for the year. All recipients are given this prestigious award based on their academic excellence and progressive research in their respective fields of study. The objective of the fellowship is to enhance the recipients' experience at UC Davis by giving them more opportunities to focus on their coursework and research. Moreover, the fellowship aims to bring awareness to the importance of arts, humanities and social sciences education at UC Davis and discover future graduate students who desire to excel in these areas of study at UC Davis.

The event began with a welcome from Vice Provost - Graduate Education and Dean - Graduate Studies Jeffery C. Gibeling and a speech from Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter. They congratulated this year's fellows on their exceptional achievements and discussed how each recipient's work demonstrates the importance of arts, humanities and social sciences education in the current STEM-oriented environment. Each fellow was honored by the dean of his or her respective college: Interim Dean Mary E. Delany, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; Dean Jessie Ann Owens, Division of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies; Dean George R. Mangun, Division of Social Sciences. To conclude the ceremony, several recipients gave student testimonials discussing their research work and how the fellowship affected their graduate studies experience at UC Davis.
