Students earn a salary and, depending on the type of employment, may have all or part of their fees paid as a benefit. In addition, students in qualifying appointments may be eligible to receive child care reimbursement.

Graduate student academic employment provides opportunities for teaching and research as Graduate Student Researchers, Associate Ins, Teaching Assistants, Readers and Tutors.
A graduate student with a qualifying appointment as a Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) or as an Academic Student Employee (TA, Reader, Associate In_ , Tutor) may receive full or partial remission of their tuition and fees according to campus policy. The Academic Student Employee Unit (BX) is a systemwide bargaining unit comprised of graduate teaching assistants, readers, tutors and other instructional assistants who work in support of faculty and lecturers
