Coaching Services for Faculty and Postdoctoral Scholars

Graduate Studies is pleased to announce that 1:1, virtual professional coaching services are now available to faculty and postdoctoral scholars.

Whether you are experiencing a specific issue with your mentee or mentor, or you’re looking for general guidance to grow your mentorship skillset, our coach will partner with you to identify issues, find solutions, strategize new approaches and incorporate leading-edge mentoring resources into your relationship.

Who Do I Meet With?

Elizabeth Sturdy completed the International Coaching Federation accredited Coaching for Life and Work Certificate Program at UC Davis in Fall 2022. This five-month intensive program included 150 academic credits and coaching hours. Elizabeth Sturdy has been the Director of Mentoring since 2019 and leads the mentor and mentee training programs for campus. She has 14 years of experience in higher education, with eight years in graduate education.

How Does It Work?

In a session, the coach serves as a guide to:

  • Help you better understand/explore mentoring issues
  • Share mentoring resources tailored to your unique situation
  • Assist you in developing action steps for after the session
  • Refer you to relevant campus resources

Mentoring coaching topics could include:

  • Mentoring style
  • Culturally aware mentoring
  • Communication styles and relationship building
  • Aligning expectations
  • Receiving/giving feedback
  • Setting and sharing goals
  • Lab management approaches and styles
  • Mentoring and meeting structures

Where Can I Sign Up?

If you are interested in accessing these services, fill out this interest form. Elizabeth Sturdy will reach out to you to schedule a 30-minute consultation to explain more about coaching and discuss if coaching is a good fit for your needs.

These free sessions are currently open only to UC Davis faculty and postdoctoral scholars.
