GSADC Application Process
Graduate Studies is currently accepting applications for the Graduate Student Advisor to the Dean and Chancellor 2026-27 position. Applications are due Friday, February 27, 2026.
The application requires the submission of a CV and two recommendations, one from your major professor. Once you've completed the form below, please refer your recommenders to the GSADC Recommendation Form.

GSADC Service Year
- The GSADC position is a 13-month appointment, starting September 1 and continuing through September 30 of the following year. This position pays $1,680 bi-weekly and is eligible for a student financial support fellowship for full in-state tuition and fees and UC SHIP (if applicable). The 13-month appointment is considered a “By-Agreement” appointment with an approximate annual salary of $47,040, paid bi-weekly through UCPath. While holding this position, students are not permitted to hold other academic employment.
Dissertation Year Fellowship
- The following year, the student will receive a dissertation year fellowship from Graduate Studies. This includes a monthly stipend, full tuition and fees, and a research and travel allowance. The fellowship duration spans from October 1 to July 1 and is not contingent upon service or employment to the university.
- Leadership Skills and Experience
- During the GSADC appointment, the student will have the opportunity to work directly with the Chancellor, Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies, and other campus administrators and staff on issues and events related to graduate education and student life. This level of engagement will provide the student an opportunity to develop key leadership, advocacy, and organizational skills for working within higher education administration and academia.
Qualifications
All registered doctoral students in good standing who are making progress towards the degree are eligible to apply. Applicants must be advanced to candidacy at UC Davis by the application date of February 27, 2026. Qualifications include:
- A desire to serve as an advocate and liaison for graduate students
- Knowledge of the campus and the needs of graduate students
- Ability to plan and coordinate events and volunteers
- Demonstrated communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work well with a variety of people
- Demonstrated commitment to leadership and service
- Ability to understand and represent a variety of perspectives
Responsibilities and Activities
General Responsibilities
- Identify and act upon issues of importance to graduate students
- Assist graduate students one-on-one with questions, concerns, issues, and/or grievances
- Identify ways to improve and assist in communication between graduate students, Graduate Studies (GS), and the Office of the Chancellor
- Work with GS staff on the coordination of fall orientation programming, including specialized programming related to international students, domestic diversity, and graduate student TAs.
- Coordinate the Chancellor’s Leadership Development Seminar Series
- Organize and facilitate the Chancellor's Graduate and Professional Student Advisory Board, and serve as an active committee member on the Graduate Student Association Executive Committee (Ex-Officio), Graduate Ally Coalition, Campus Community Council, Graduate Council (including the Administrative Committee), the Campus Council on Community and Diversity, and others.
- Participate as an active team member of Graduate Studies.
- During the GSADC Service Year, the student will automatically be a part of the Professors For The Future Program where they will be asked to develop a project based on one of four areas: Public communication of academic research, Pedagogical Innovation: Teaching in the Undergraduate Classroom, Inclusive excellence or Wellness and wellbeing.
