UC Davis Climbs in World Rankings

The University of California, Davis, has been recognized in the Times Higher Education World Reputation rankings for 2018 released Wednesday, ranking 47th among the 100 top ranked universities by reputation.

The World Reputation Rankings employ the world’s largest invitation-only academic opinion survey to provide the definitive list of the top 100 most powerful global university brands, based on the judgment of senior academics.

UC Davis ranked 49th last year.

Earlier this week, UC Davis was ranked 42nd out of 18,000 universities worldwide in the 2018-19 Center for World University Rankings, or CWUR, the largest academic ranking of global universities.

UC Davis was ranked 28th among all universities in the United States and 13th among public U.S. universities.

CWUR uses seven objective indicators to rank the world’s universities without relying on surveys and university data submissions. These include quality of education, quality of faculty, research output, citations and quality of publications, and alumni employment. The entire methodology and other information are here.

Other rankings

In February, UC Davis was ranked first and second in veterinary science and agriculture, respectively, in the 2018 QS World Rankings by subject. Among 48 disciplines, the university ranked in the top 50 in seven that were examined this year, including environmental sciences, anatomy and physiology, biological sciences, earth and marine sciences, and developmental studies.

U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 Best Graduate School rankings, which looks at 250 public and private national universities, featured several top 20 placements, including a tie for the 18th spot for Best Graduate Biological Sciences Programs (second in the specialty category for ecology and evolutionary biology) as well as 10th for the School of Medicine’s primary care program, seventh for biological/agricultural engineering and 11th in civil engineering. They join previously ranked top 20 programs such as English and political science.
