Postdoctoral Scholars
Compensation:
- April 2023 new University of California (UC) salary scale resulting in average salary increases of 8 percent.
- Annual pay increases each October, approximately 7.5 percent in the first year and 3.5 percent in each of the remaining years;
- Annual experience-based increase of 3.7 percent for eligible Postdoctoral Scholars.
Childcare:
- Up to $2500 annual reimbursement for childcare expenses
- Flexibility to use funds for chlidcare expenses related to professional travel;
- Annual $100 increases in 2024, 2025 and 2026;
- Access to pre-tax Dependent Care (DepCare) for childcare expenses.
Appointments:
- Two-year initial appointments with one-year reappointments thereafter.
Paid Family Leave:
- A new special Postdoc Paid Leave program of 8 weeks of 100% paid family leave for all Postdocs.
Academic Student Employees (ASEs)
Compensation:
- April 2023 ASEs will receive meaningful pay increases, followed by significant pay increases in each subsequent contract year.
- Experience-based increases for Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Associate Ins (AIs).
- October 1, 2024, the minimum nine-month salary for TAs will be $34,000 for 50% time appointments.
Childcare reimbursement:
- $1,350/quarter or $2,025/semester, plus $1,350 for summer.
- Additional $100 per year.
Paid Leave:
- Expanded to eight paid weeks per year for serious health conditions, family care, baby bonding, pregnancy or childbirth-related needs; short-term paid leave of 2 days per quarter; paid bereavement leave of 5 calendar days.
Fee remissions:
- 100% of campus fees, 100% coverage of tuition, student services fees, and health care already provided to qualified ASEs.
- UC will cover Nonresident Supplemental Tuition for up to three years for eligible ASEs who have advanced to candidacy in their degree programs
Benefits:
- Eligible ASEs with 25 percent or more appointment receive full remission for a UC-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).
- UC will pay 100% of dependent child premiums for eligible ASEs.
Graduate Student Researchers (GSRs)
Compensation:
- April 2023 GSRs will receive meaningful pay increases, followed by significant pay increases in each subsequent contract year.
- GSRs on the lowest three salary points will see an especially significant increase in the first year due to conversion to a new salary scale.
- GSRs will also be eligible for experience-based increases.
- By Oct. 1, 2024, the first step on the new salary scale will be set at $34,564.50 for 50%-time appointments.
Childcare reimbursement:
- $1,350/quarter or $2,025/semester, plus $1,350 for summer.
- Additional $100 per year.
Paid Leave:
- Expanded to eight paid weeks per year for serious health conditions, family care, baby bonding, pregnancy or childbirth-related needs; short-term paid leave of 2 days for quarter campuses; paid bereavement leave of 5 calendar days.
- 12 days of paid Personal Time Off (PTO) is a new benefit for GSRs.
